Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service

Service Response Standards.

What are response standards?

Response standards are the targets we set ourselves to measure how quickly and effectively we respond to emergencies. They help us monitor our performance, identify areas for improvement, and ensure we are providing the best possible service to our communities. While every incident is different, these standards give the public a clear understanding of the level of service we aim to deliver.

Our Response Standards

Each community fire station covers an average 334 km2. This is the largest of any fire and rescue service in England and presents a significant challenge. It is important for us to monitor our performance, and we do this using the standards set out below.

We have been working on our new response standards, and once agreed, these will be shared with you on our website. This will be a key area of focus for us in the coming year.

  • We will endeavour to answer emergency calls within 10 seconds 95% of the time.

  • We will endeavour to alert the correct community fire station within 90 seconds 100% of the time.

  • We will endeavour to ensure that the first fire engine attends all property fires within 10 minutes of alerting on 80% of occasions.

  • We will endeavour to ensure that the second fire engine attends all property fires within 13 minutes of alerting on 80% of occasions.

  • We will endeavour to ensure that the first fire engine attends all road traffic collisions within 15 minutes of alerting on 80% of occasions.

  • We will endeavour to ensure that the second fire engine attends all road traffic collisions within 20 minutes of alerting on 80% of occasions.
